Symptoms

  • The engine or handle is burning after a few chargers
  • Odour of hot plastic or burnt varnish
  • Switches to battery connection or replica
  • A wire or connector is warm to the touch

Causes

Most common to rare.

  1. Too powerful spring (definition) for motor and batteryCommon

  1. First of all. Do not reconnect until the cause is found: a short circuit on a LiPo (definition) can ignite the battery.

  2. Look for a wire pinched by the handguard or butt, a melted sheath, a solder that touches a metal piece. This is the most likely place to spark.

  3. A reinforced spring requires a high torque motor and a battery capable of flow. The electrical compatibility calculator indicates whether the assembly is on the road.

  4. A pinion too deep or too far away from the bevel gear (definition) force the engine. Adjust the screw under the handle with small bits, pulling at once, until the sound is clear.

  5. Gearbox open, spring removed, gears must turn by hand without a hard point. Otherwise: shimming to repeat, fat to renew.

  6. A 16 AWG (definition) cable and a Deans or XT30 connector support the current of a reinforced replica, unlike the original mini-Tamiya.

Stop and hand over the reply to a technician if:

  • The battery has swollen or smoked: it is out of use
  • A burning odour persists after cooling: the engine or contacts have suffered
  • You're not comfortable with welding.
